Information

An overall budget of €40.000 has been set aside by the EFTTA Board in order to support youth fishing projects across Europe. All projects need to apply for the grant to the EFTTA Board and must recruit financial sponsorship from an existing EFTTA member before approaching the Board of Directors. If awarded the grant, EFTTA will match the sponsorship from the EFTTA member up to a limit of €2.000. A gift certificate will be sent to the sponsoring EFTTA member for them to either purchase fishing tackle or award a cash grant to the successful project applicant.

In order to apply for the EFTTA Youth Grant, please send the following information to the EFTTA Secretariat before 1st October 2009.

EFTTA Youth Grant recipients 2007-2008

Charitable trust aiming to engage young disadvantaged people in alternate activities such as fishing. Aims to help those at risk from crime, drug use and other forms of social exclusion by promoting angling. Aspires to have 30 schemes in the UK by 2010.

To produce a series of DVDs showing how to fish aimed at encouraging young people to get involved in sport fishing.

The project is to make an educational movie for the young and upcoming carping anglers in the Netherlands and Belgium in Dutch. Will show how to fish responsibly and respectfully. DVD to be made available free of charge.

Teaching mainstream and disadvantaged school children elements of game and coarse angling. Aims to impart social skills and promote angling to youngsters.

Junior Angling Club for deprived young people who cannot afford to buy their own angling equipment in Durham with the aim to divert young people from crime and anti social behaviour.

Youth apprenticeship camp, fly fishing and fly casting seminar with the aim of teaching characteristics of individual species and respect for the environment. Target: about 400 participants.

A coach will be employed to tour schools in the Häme district and teach a range of fishing techniques and then to set up fishing schools/clubs for the youngsters who take up the sport. Aims to increase the number of young recreational fishermen in Finland.

Local fishing clubs will work with schools to arrange fishing trips and teach pupils about water ecology and angling. It will include both theory and practice sessions.

Children from small villages in Serbia/Montenegro will be taught to fish and the local authorities lobbied to cultivate the aquatic environment. Aims to make an educational centre for children to keep them off the streets and away from drugs and crime.

15 organisations which work with young people including schools, youth groups and voluntary groups, to create a sustainable angling presence through the National Federation of Anglers education and coaching programme.

School children from the River Sieg region will learn about the re-introduction programme for the threatened salmon species and will participate in releasing the young salmon parrs.
